Elbow Bursitis

Elbow bursitis, also known as Olecranon bursitis, is swelling and inflammation of the olecranon bursa.

The olecranon bursa, similar to various bursa located at joints throughout the body, is an enclosed soft tissue cavity, sometimes referred to as a sac or pad, filled with fluid overlying the olecranon process (elbow) which facilitates smooth joint movement. Injury or trauma may cause excessive fluid to collect within the bursa causing joint discomfort, tenderness, and swelling.

Patients generally find it difficult to put their weight on the elbow, find it tender to the touch, and have an egg-like swollen enlargement at the tip of the elbow.
