Tendons are collagen fibrous tissues, or cartilage, that connect muscle to bone.
Tendonitis (Tendinosis)
Tendonitis results when these tissues become inflamed, causing joint pain.
There are various types of tendonitis that commonly occur, including tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, patellar tendonitis, wrist tendonitis, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Tendon Ruptures
Tendons ruptures, or tears, are uncommon. In fact, many tendon injuries are a result of the tendon tearing away from the insertion point of the bone it is attaching muscle to. Either scenario can cause excruciating pain.
The most common areas for tendon ruptures are the Achilles tendon (attaches calf muscles at the heal), rotator cuff of the shoulder, patellate tendon at the patella (knee cap), and biceps.
